Trams returned to the streets of Dublin for the time in half a century in June 2004 when the first completed line city's light rail LUAS system opened to the public. The name LUAS (pronounced "Lou-As") is the Irish word for speed. This tram system connects suburban parts of Dublin city with the centre on two separate tramlines.
