This year marks the 40thanniversary of a Melbourne tram running on Muni's tracks-the first Trolley Festival. Ever since, one or more of the sturdy, iconic "W-class" trams from Down Under have been a part of Muni's historic fleet, continuing to operably over the decades.
Muni's Melbourne trams have been part of several promotional campaigns for their home country, including this one at East Bay Terminal around 1986, promoting Australia tourism. That's Olivia Newton-John standing in the motorman's doorway.
